Phuket governor delivers aid to workers displaced by Srisoonthorn camp fire
Phuket Governor Nirat Pongsitthavorn delivered aid to victims of the Srisoonthorn workers’ camp fire at Wat Cherng Talay, while officials reported that shelter occupancy had fallen to 90 as relocations continued.
Phuket Governor Nirat Pongsitthavorn visited a temporary shelter at Wat Cherng Talay to deliver aid to people displaced by last week’s fire at a workers’ camp in Srisoonthorn, as the number of residents at the shelter fell to 90.
During the visit, officials handed out “Compassion Kits” containing essential supplies to victims whose accommodation was destroyed in the blaze. Gov Nirat was joined by Phuket Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department chief Warat Surawadee, members of the Phuket Red Cross Committee, government officials, representatives of relevant agencies and local leaders.
The governor met displaced residents, offered encouragement and listened to concerns about living conditions at the shelter. He said authorities in Phuket would continue working with all sectors to provide support until those affected can return to normal life.
“We will integrate cooperation from all sectors to continuously care for, assist and rehabilitate those affected until they can return to normal life,” Gov Nirat said.
Provincial officials also reported progress in relocating workers after the fire. An additional 60 workers have now been moved back to the original Bang Jo camp, bringing the total number of residents who have returned there to 110.
At the same time, 150 displaced workers have been relocated to a reserve accommodation site on Soi Layan 1/1. Officials said the moves reduced the number of people staying at the temporary shelter at Wat Cherng Talay to 90.
Gov Nirat said the relocations were part of efforts to gradually restore the shelter to normal operations while ensuring affected workers have suitable accommodation. He said conditions at the shelter remain orderly, with company staff and local agencies continuing to provide food, essential services and other support.
Relevant agencies will continue monitoring the situation and providing assistance until recovery efforts are complete and all affected residents have been fully accommodated, he said.
