Phuket governor seeks Blue Economy hub in Andaman development plan
A draft 2028-2032 plan aims to develop the Andaman region through high-value tourism, modern agriculture and stronger social security.
Phuket Governor Chotinrin has called for broad stakeholder participation in a draft 2028-2032 development plan aimed at turning the Andaman region into a Blue Economy hub.
Chotinrin chaired a consultation meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall on 22 July, with officials and stakeholders from across the Andaman provinces joining in person and via Cisco Webex.
Professor Saengduen Hangsuwanat of Phuket Rajabhat University presented the draft plan, which proposes a development model based on high-value international tourism, modern agriculture, sustainable development and improved quality of life.
The plan has three priorities: upgrading tourism through a sustainable Blue Economy model and increasing its value; promoting efficient and sustainable modern agriculture; and strengthening society and security across all areas.
Chotinrin said the plan should be developed through meaningful participation from local businesses, community organisations and other sectors. He called for the Phuket Chamber of Commerce, the Phuket Federation of Thai Industries, tourism and hotel associations, banks and relevant government agencies to contribute from the early stages.
The governor also urged agencies to complete surveys on the draft plan so that it can produce practical projects with tangible benefits for residents.
Officials said the consultation process would bring together views from across the Andaman region to set priorities for the next five years, including strengthening the regional economy, improving competitiveness, supporting communities and raising the quality and efficiency of public services.
