Phuket highway works to disrupt Patong Hill traffic, close Bang Khu tunnel
The Phuket Highways Office announced that resurfacing works are now underway on Route 4029 over Patong Hill, between Km 0+000 and Km 1+000, from the ‘Patong City’ sign to Soi Khuan Yang.
The Phuket Highways Office said resurfacing work began Monday, May 19, on Route 4029 over Patong Hill, with disruption expected between Km 0+000 and Km 1+000 from the Patong City sign to Soi Khuan Yang. Officials also announced overnight closures of the Bang Khu Underpass tunnel in Phuket from Monday night through May 31, with the tunnel shut daily from 8pm to 5am.
The Patong Hill repairs are scheduled through next Monday, May 25. Officials said the work is focused on hazardous sections on curves to increase road friction and reduce the risk of vehicles skidding.
Residents living along the route and other road users were told to expect delays while crews are on site.
Underpass control center installation and public reporting lines
The Bang Khu closure is intended to allow installation of a remote control and monitoring center linked to smart city traffic management, officials said. The shutdown applies only overnight during the project period.
The Highways Office urged motorists to plan trips in advance and avoid affected routes where possible. Officials also apologized for the inconvenience caused by the works.
The office asked the public to report damaged road surfaces, potholes, broken streetlights, faulty traffic signals, damaged traffic signs and fallen trees along highway routes. Reports can be made during office hours at 076-212179 or through the Department of Highways hotline 1586, which operates 24 hours a day.
