Phuket included in heavy rain alert as Andaman waves reach 2 metres
The Thai Meteorological Department forecasts isolated heavy rain in Phuket and thunderstorms across 60% of Thailand’s southern west coast on 21–22 September.
Phuket is among the areas forecast to receive isolated heavy rain as the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) warns of unsettled weather across Thailand from 6am on 21 September to 6am on 22 September 2026.
The TMD expects thunderstorms across 60% of the southern west coast, including Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket and Krabi. Temperatures in the region are forecast to range from 23–25°C at night to 30–33°C during the day.
South-westerly winds from Phuket southwards are expected to reach 15–35 km/h, with waves of 1–2 metres. Waves may exceed 2 metres during thunderstorms. Further north, from Phang Nga, waves are forecast to reach about 2 metres and rise above that height during storms.
The wider alert covers 55 provinces, including Bangkok. The TMD warned that heavy to very heavy rain combined with accumulated rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides and forest run-off, particularly in foothill and low-lying areas.
The department advised people in vulnerable areas to remain cautious and urged mariners to avoid thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea were advised to remain ashore.
