Phuket inspects four shooting ranges in Patong and Kathu
Officials checked permits, building use, modifications and safety measures, but Phuket has not said whether any of the four ranges passed or faced enforcement action.
Phuket officials inspected four shooting ranges in Patong and Kathu on Tuesday, checking building permits, building use, modifications and safety measures.
The inspections were carried out by Kathu District officials, Kathu Municipality, Patong Municipality and other agencies, with Phuket Vice Governor Khetarat Chansilp present, according to a report from the Phuket Provincial Public Relations Office.
Khetarat said the checks focused particularly on ranges in communities and tourist areas, including their proximity to residential areas, schools and tourist attractions. He said officials found issues involving building permits and building use, but the report did not identify the affected ranges or specify the problems.
The report did not say whether any of the four ranges passed the inspections, were found non-compliant or faced enforcement action. Khetarat said local authorities may order the suspension of building use if premises are being used without required permits or in breach of regulations.
The inspections followed a fatal shooting at a range in Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi, where a 36-year-old man used a rented firearm in an apparent suicide. Phuket Governor Chotinrin subsequently ordered inspections of shooting ranges across the province, including checks on firearms and ammunition, licences and other legal requirements.
A previous inspection of four ranges in Chalong and Rawai on Aug 19 also examined operating licences, firearms and ammunition controls, documentation and security measures. No infringements or irregularities were publicly reported at that time.
