Phuket launches island-wide motorcycle safety campaign
A convoy travelled through Phuket’s three districts on 1 November as officials promoted safer riding during the island’s month-long road safety campaign.
Phuket officials launched an island-wide motorcycle safety campaign on 1 November, with a convoy travelling through all three districts to promote safer riding and highlight the risks of road accidents.
Phuket Governor Chotinarin Kerdsom presided over the launch at Phuket Provincial Hall, where government agencies, private-sector representatives, civil society groups and road safety networks gathered. The procession travelled from Phuket Town through Kathu and Thalang, with public awareness activities held along the route before it ended at Robinson Lifestyle Thalang.
The campaign urged riders and other road users to wear helmets, avoid drink-driving, observe speed limits, use roadworthy motorcycles and not drive against the flow of traffic. Other messages included carrying a valid driving licence and wearing seatbelts.
The campaign coincides with November’s Month of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. Officials also called for stronger enforcement, improvements at high-risk locations and greater public awareness of road safety responsibilities.
Activities will continue throughout November under the message “Safe Phuket – Think Before You Start”, with residents and tourists urged to take greater responsibility for their own safety and that of other road users.
