Phuket MP Somchat reports B30 million in assets as shareholdings face scrutiny
A petition has raised questions about Phuket MP Somchat Techathaworncharoen’s reported shareholdings, while his declared assets total about B30 million against liabilities of B12.27 million.
Phuket constituency 1 MP Acting Sub Lt Somchat Techathaworncharoen reported assets of about B30 million and liabilities of B12.27 million, as a petition raised questions about shareholdings linked to him and companies associated with his law firm.
Activist Ruangkrai Likitwatana submitted a complaint and supporting documents to the government complaints centre on 9 August, asking authorities to examine whether Somchat held shares in companies listed in records filed with the Department of Business Development (DBD), whether the shares had been fully paid for and the sources of funds used to buy or sell them.
According to the petition, DBD shareholder records for four companies showed that Somchat still held shares after leaving Parliament on 12 December 2025, with a combined value of B9.0795 million. The petition alleges that these holdings were not reported to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). It also cites records for 12 companies in which Somchat had previously held shares before the asset declaration required during his 2023 parliamentary term, with a combined value of B102.8799 million.
The report said Somchat’s declaration to the NACC upon leaving office listed total assets of about B30 million and total liabilities of about B12 million. In a declaration filed when he took office on 25 February 2026, he listed cash of B100,000, bank deposits of B100,000 and investments of B100,000. The investment entry was described as life-insurance coverage and did not specify shareholdings.
The declaration also listed a loan receivable of B80,000, four land plots valued at B6 million, three buildings including condominiums and commercial premises valued at B20 million, six cars and two motorcycles valued at B2 million, and other assets worth B1 million, including 20 watches and 30 Buddhist images. His declared bank and financial-institution loans totalled B12.27 million.
DBD information cited in the report showed Somchat was connected as a director or shareholder to 28 companies, either directly or through Avocats Lawyers Co Ltd. The law firm, registered in 2010 for legal activities, listed Somchat as its largest shareholder and director. Its latest filed accounts for 2025 showed total assets of B29.41 million, revenue of B9.12 million and net profit of B3.24 million.
The shareholding questions have been linked in the report to scrutiny by the Department of Special Investigation. However, People's Party list MP Karunpol Thiansuwan said the DSI had not issued a summons to Somchat and that he had seen no irregularity in the case. He urged state agencies to protect the confidentiality and dignity of people who had not been charged, saying the release of names could lead the public to believe they were suspects or had already committed an offence.
Somchat was first elected for Phuket constituency 1 in 2023 under the Move Forward Party and was re-elected in the same constituency in 2026 under the People's Party.
