Phuket Old Prison Park Set to Open in Late August as Redevelopment Passes 80 Percent
Phuket plans to open the Phuket Old Prison Park in late August, with redevelopment of the former prison site now more than 80 percent complete.
Phuket is set to open the Phuket Old Prison Park by late August as redevelopment of the former prison grounds has passed 80 percent completion, according to the source.
The project will turn the former prison site into a public park intended to serve both as a recreational space and a cultural venue. The Provincial Administrative Organization of Phuket is leading the redevelopment and has described the park as a “new lung” for the city.
According to the source, the park is being designed to provide shaded walkways, open leisure areas, and spaces for learning about local history. The development is also intended to support creativity and community engagement, expanding the site’s role beyond that of a traditional public park.
The project also includes an adjacent eight-story parking building. The structure will be able to accommodate more than 300 vehicles and is intended to improve access to the park while helping to reduce congestion in the area.
Once opened, the Phuket Old Prison Park will mark the conversion of a previously restricted site into a public space for residents and visitors. The project combines heritage-related elements with modern urban planning, with the aim of creating a new city landmark in Phuket.
