Phuket prepares for visit by 5,120 US Navy personnel in October

Phuket authorities are preparing security and tourism measures for the scheduled arrival of about 5,120 US Navy personnel from 4 to 10 October 2026, according to a report by Kom Chad Luek.

The USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) and USS Delbert D. Black (DDG-119) are scheduled to berth at Phuket Deep Sea Port during the visit. The deployment is expected to bring a large group of service members to the island for leave and is being treated by local authorities as an opportunity to support tourism-related businesses.

Patong police are coordinating with tourist police, local administrative officials and security agencies. The report said they are also working with Lou Fam and Robert Robinson, identified as deputy assistant defence attachés at the US Embassy in Thailand.

Thai and US officials have created a dedicated Line group to speed up coordination, maintain public order and respond to emergencies during the visit. Officials have also briefed US personnel on the need to follow Thai law and respect local customs and culture.

Patong Beach and Bangla Road are expected to be among the main destinations, with Patong police and volunteers preparing additional security coverage. Phuket Old Town, known for its Sino-Portuguese architecture and local food, is also expected to attract visitors.

Karon and Kata beaches are other anticipated destinations, particularly for beach activities and sunset views. Cafes, beach clubs and seafood restaurants around the island are preparing for increased spending and demand during the visit.
