Phuket pursues Middle East tourism growth after talks with Jordan delegation
Phuket officials and a Jordanian delegation held talks on expanding tourism ties, including Arabic-speaking guides, Halal-standard attractions and joint promotion to Middle Eastern visitors.
Phuket officials met a Jordanian delegation at Phuket Provincial Hall on July 8 to discuss expanding tourism ties and attracting more visitors from Jordan and other Middle Eastern countries.
The delegation was in Thailand on a study tour from July 6-12. It included Thai Ambassador to Amman Chiraporn Chirampaikool, Royal Thai Embassy in Amman Counsellor Samerjit Limlikhit and Amman Tourism Director Emad Rawahneh.
Also attending the meeting were Phuket Tourism and Sports Office Director Somchai Semmanee, Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket Office Director Siriwan Singharaj, Phuket Temporary Passport Office Head Kanita Saphaisarn and Phuket Provincial Public Relations Officer Wimol Nookaew.
During the meeting, Phuket officials presented the province’s tourism strengths, including its Peranakan cultural heritage, community-based tourism initiatives and multicultural society.
The discussions covered practical areas for cooperation such as sharing expertise in managing walking street tourism, developing Arabic-speaking tour guides, upgrading tourist attractions to meet Halal standards and jointly promoting Phuket to travelers from Jordan and the wider Middle East.
Governor Chotinrin also highlighted Phuket’s ambition to become an international medical hub, pointing to the island’s healthcare facilities and international schools as part of its appeal.
