Phuket releases 300,000 shrimp to mark King’s birthday

Phuket officials released 300,000 shrimp into the sea on 27 July 2026 during a ceremony at King Rama X Commemoration Park at the tip of Saphan Hin Peninsula to mark the King’s birthday.

Phuket Governor Chotinrin Kerdsum presided over the event, which was organised by the Department of Fisheries through the Phuket Provincial Fisheries Office in cooperation with Phuket City Municipality and other agencies.

Phuket Provincial Fisheries Officer Pikul Chairat said the initiative was intended to honour the King, promote the conservation and restoration of aquatic resources and marine ecosystems, and encourage public participation in protecting natural resources.

During the ceremony, the governor led participants in paying tribute to the King and reciting blessings before the shrimp were released. Officials said the release was intended to increase marine animal populations, restore Phuket’s coastal ecosystems and strengthen fishery resources in support of local fishing communities and sustainable livelihoods.

Government officials, Fisheries Department staff, students, local business representatives and members of the public attended.
