Phuket revokes 35 cannabis shop licences and suspends 112
Phuket had 1,065 cannabis shops as of 28 August, with inspections leading to licence revocations, suspensions and legal action against some operators.
Phuket authorities have revoked 35 cannabis shop licences and suspended 112 others, according to figures presented at a provincial economic committee meeting late last week.
As of 28 August, the province had 1,065 cannabis shops, down from 1,089 previously. The figures were reported at the sixth meeting of the Joint Public-Private Sector Committee for Solving Economic Problems in Phuket for fiscal year 2026, chaired by Phuket Governor Chotinrin Kerdsum at Phuket Provincial Hall.
A further 11 shops were under suspension at the time of the report, while 13 had been notified of suspension orders. Authorities have also begun legal action against shops found to be operating in breach of the law.
The Phuket Provincial Public Health Office said 17 shops had violated Section 46 of the relevant cannabis regulations by selling cannabis without a licence, or Section 52 by selling while their licences were suspended. Another 23 shops were found to have breached Section 6(10) of the Food Act 1979.
The inspections are part of ongoing provincial efforts to regulate cannabis businesses and enforce licensing and other legal requirements. The public health office has created an online map of registered cannabis shops through the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine’s cannabis GIS system.
The office urged members of the public to report cannabis shops operating outside the map.
