Phuket revokes visa of Ghanaian man after public complaints, moves to deport him

Phuket immigration authorities, working with Chalong Police Station, have revoked the visa of a 37-year-old Ghanaian man after repeated complaints from local residents about disruptive behavior.

The Phuket Immigration Office told The Phuket Express that the action was part of a broader policy to strengthen enforcement against foreign nationals whose conduct is considered harmful to public order and damaging to Phuket’s tourism image.

Investigators identified the man as Mr. Boakye, withholding his surname. Authorities said he first entered Thailand in 2024 to work as a language teacher in Bangkok. In 2026, he moved to Patong, Phuket, to continue teaching, but later lost his job after repeated issues linked to alcohol use.

After losing his income and accommodation, authorities said Mr. Boakye stayed at a local church and later at Wat Chalong. Officials reported that his behavior included intoxication, harassment and intimidation of residents, disturbances to tourists, and sleeping in temples.

Following a review of the case, Phuket Immigration sought approval to revoke his permission to remain in Thailand under Section 54 of the Immigration Act (1979). He has now been placed in custody pending deportation to Ghana.
