The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has forecast southwesterly winds of 15 to 35 kilometres per hour from Phuket southward on August 23, with seas of 1 to 2 metres and waves rising above 2 metres in thunderstorm areas.
The forecast said rain would cover 30% of the relevant region, with heavy falls in Ranong. From Phang Nga northward, winds of 20 to 40 kilometres per hour are expected, with seas of 2 to 3 metres and waves above 3 metres in thunderstorm areas.
The TMD warned that the upper Andaman Sea would remain fairly rough, with waves of 2 to 3 metres and higher waves in thunderstorms. Ships were advised to navigate cautiously and avoid storm areas, while small boats in the upper Andaman Sea were advised to remain ashore.
