Phuket seas to turn rough as monsoon brings thunderstorms
Rougher seas are forecast off Phuket, with waves of 1-2 metres and more than 2 metres in thunderstorms as the southwest monsoon continues.
Southwesterly winds of 15-35 kilometres per hour are forecast from Phuket northward, with waves at 1-2 metres and above 2 metres in thunderstorm areas, as the southwest monsoon persists over Thailand.
The Thai Meteorological Department said the moderate southwest monsoon continues to cover Thailand, the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, bringing isolated heavy rain to parts of the country, including the South.
For the Andaman coast, thunderstorms are forecast across 60% of the area, with isolated heavy rain in Phangnga, Krabi, Trang and Satun. In waters off Phuket and areas to the north, sea conditions are expected to worsen during thunderstorms.
Authorities warned people in affected areas to watch for heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may trigger flash floods and forest run-off, especially near waterways and in low-lying areas.
All vessels in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand have been advised to proceed with caution and avoid sailing in thunderstorm areas.
