Phuket second waste incinerator project passes 50% completion

Phuket’s second waste incinerator project has passed 50% completion and is now expected to be finished in June 2027, according to a report by The Phuket Express.

Phuket Mayor Supachok La-ongpetch recently inspected construction at the provincial solid waste management centre. He was accompanied by Anan Nopkao, director of the Division of Public Health and Environment, and officials from the municipal waste and sanitation unit.

The project is being managed by EA Waste Management Phuket Co., Ltd. It was originally scheduled for completion in mid-2026, but delays in international shipping linked to the Middle East conflict slowed the delivery of machinery and construction materials, the report said.

The company plans to begin introducing waste into the bunker system between April and June 2027, ahead of full operations. The facility will use a closed incineration system designed to minimise odour emissions and reduce disruption to nearby communities.

Once operational, the incinerator is expected to process approximately 500 tonnes of waste per day, strengthening Phuket’s waste-management capacity.

Phuket City officials are also preparing for increased waste during the annual Phuket Vegetarian Festival, which is scheduled for 10–18 October 2026. The event’s street processions and shrine ceremonies generate refuse, including firecracker debris from the Iew Keng ceremonies.
