Phuket statement rejects reports of governor ouster bid

A Phuket provincial statement has rejected social media reports that residents were preparing to remove Governor Chotinrin, saying the claims had “no basis”.

Issued by the Phuket branch of the Public Relations Department on 11 September, the statement also said there was no basis for reports linking the governor’s appointment or tenure to political issues.

It said Phuket Province was continuing to carry out its administrative duties and implement policies for residents and tourists in accordance with official authority and regulations.

The statement urged the public not to believe, share or disseminate unverified information, warning that inaccurate or false claims could damage confidence in Phuket, its image and its tourism industry.

The response came amid increasing public questions about Gov Chotinrin’s performance. Phuket MP Chalermpong Saengdee, who represents Constituency 2, was among those raising questions, according to the report.
