Phuket steps up Bang Tao Beach enforcement, reclaims more than 5 rai — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
Phuket officials intensified Bang Tao Beach enforcement this week, launching a coordinated operation to reclaim more than five rai of illegally occupied public land in Cherng Talay, Thalang on Wednesday, April 29. A follow-up inspection on Thursday, April 30, was led by Deputy Governor Adul Chuthong under the direction of Governor Nirat Phongsitthithavorn, with Provincial Clerk Rungrueng Thimabutr and multiple land, forestry and local agencies joining the operation.
Authorities said they have installed 42 boundary signs marking zones where construction is prohibited after months of systematic inspections. Several other sites are still being reviewed and measured by responsible agencies.
Utilities cut at beachside restaurant under investigation
During Thursday’s inspection, officials examined a restaurant operating on public land and found 15 staff members at the site. Those workers included 10 Myanmar nationals, four Thais and one Indian employee.
Officials cut electricity and water supplies to stop the unauthorized business from continuing to operate while tourists were still using the venue. Evidence is now being gathered for legal action against those involved.
Deputy Governor Adul said agencies must enforce the rules with transparency, fairness and urgency, with particular attention to coastal areas. He also called for faster inspection of remaining shoreline sites as the province continues its campaign against illegal encroachment on public beach land.
