Phuket targets unlicensed jet-ski operators and nominee businesses

Phuket authorities identified eight alleged violators under the Navigation in Thai Waters Act during a campaign targeting unlicensed jet-ski operators and businesses suspected of using Thai nationals as nominees to conceal foreign control.

The inspection operation was conducted on 25 July 2026 after Phuket Governor Chotnarin Kerdsom assigned Deputy Governor Romdon Hayiawa to lead the campaign. Officials from the Phuket Regional Marine Office and the Marine Department also took part.

The team inspected jet-ski operators across the province, focusing on vessels without permits, businesses lacking authorisation and ownership structures suspected of violating Thai law. Legal action against the eight identified violators is already under way, according to officials.

Authorities said the campaign is intended to dismantle nominee arrangements, promote transparency in tourism-related businesses and protect fair competition. Regular inspections and strict penalties for non-compliant operators will continue.

“Phuket is committed to fair and lawful business practices,” Deputy Governor Romdon said. “This campaign ensures that legitimate operators can thrive while protecting tourists and safeguarding the country’s economic interests.”
