Phuket Town launches crackdown on blocked footpaths and road encroachments
Municipal officers from the Public Order Division conducted inspections in key areas including Phang Nga Rd and Thalang Rd, targeting obstructions and encroachments on footpaths and roadways.
Phuket City Municipality officers inspected Phang Nga Road and Thalang Road on May 6, 2026, as Phuket Town launched a campaign to clear blocked footpaths and road encroachments. The operation targeted unauthorised use of public space, including vendors, parked vehicles and other objects obstructing sidewalks and roadways.
The inspection was led by Administrative Division Head Thanaphan Phuripattaraphan and General Administration Division Head Mali Inthisit. Officials from multiple municipal units joined the operation, including public order, public relations, and strategy and budget teams.
Campaign targets pedestrian access and public-space use
Municipal officials said the campaign is intended to improve cleanliness, order and safety across the city by tackling widespread encroachment on public areas. They said the focus extends beyond sidewalks and roads to markets and community spaces where access has been obstructed.
Authorities said the effort is meant to ensure safer and more convenient pedestrian movement while promoting equal use of shared public areas. They added that improving the urban environment supports Phuket’s image as a livable city and a quality tourism destination.
The municipality called for cooperation in keeping sidewalks and roads clear, avoiding parking on footpaths and refraining from any occupation of public land. Officials said violators will face strict legal action under relevant laws.
