Phuket warned of rough Andaman seas as heavy rain hits 15 provinces
Thunderstorms are forecast across the southern west coast, with waves near Phuket reaching up to three metres and higher during storms.
Phuket is expected to see thunderstorms and rough seas as a rather strong south-westerly monsoon affects Thailand from 6am on Thursday, 27 August, to 6am on Friday, 28 August 2026, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) said.
The TMD forecast thunderstorms across 40% of the southern west coast, with isolated heavy rain in Ranong and Phang Nga. Heavy rain is forecast in 15 provinces nationwide, while thunderstorms are expected in 26 provinces and Bangkok during the 24-hour period.
From Phuket northwards, south-westerly winds are expected to reach 20-40 kilometres per hour. Waves in the Andaman Sea are forecast at two to three metres, rising above three metres during thunderstorms.
The TMD advised mariners in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand to proceed cautiously and avoid sailing through thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should remain ashore during the period, while residents in affected areas were urged to watch for dangers from heavy and accumulated rainfall.
