Phuket warns of water shortages, flood risk as dry spell and storms loom
The reduced pressure measures will be in effect nightly from 10pm to 5am between May 11 and May 15, the PWA confirmed in an announcement issued on Thursday (May 7).
Phuket officials warned of overnight water shortages and a separate flood threat this week, with reduced water pressure set from 10pm to 5am nightly between May 11 and May 15. The Phuket Waterworks Authority said drought, a prolonged dry spell and extreme heat have cut raw water feeding the Bang Wad Water Treatment Plant, while provincial authorities prepared for possible floods, storms and landslides forecast for May 15-20.
The water utility said some areas may face very low pressure or no running water during the affected hours.
Water pressure cuts to hit Phuket Town and Patong
Affected areas in Phuket Town include Sri Suchat Village, Pruksa Ville Village, Irrawaddy Bypass Village, Chaofa Garden Home 5 (Wang Thalang), Khao Khad, Laem Panwa, Santisuk Soi, Pracharoomjai Soi, Saokhem Soi and Anamai Laem Chan Rd.
The Le Meridien Hotel, Centara Villas and Centara Grand Beach Resort Phuket areas were also listed. In Kathu District, the announcement named Hopeland Village, Bang Thong Soi and the whole of Patong.
The PWA urged households and businesses to conserve water, prepare storage containers and check plumbing for leaks to reduce losses during the restriction period.

Agencies ordered to prepare for floods, storms and landslides
Deputy Phuket Governor Teeraphong Chuaychoo chaired a meeting on May 8 at Provincial Hall with DDPM-Phuket, district offices, local administrative organisations and other agencies overseeing rainy-season disaster response.
Officials reviewed weather forecasts, rainfall projections, preparedness plans and high-risk zones vulnerable to flooding, flash floods and landslides. Teeraphong said the Meteorological Department expects May to mark the shift into the rainy season, with heavier rain intensifying in the second half of the month.
He said May 15-20 carries increased risk of flash floods, runoff, overflowing waterways and landslides in some areas. Phuket Governor Nirat Pongsitthaworn has ordered agencies to improve drainage, expand water storage, dredge canals and pipes, clear blocked waterways, and ensure pumps and other emergency equipment are ready for deployment.
