Phuket’s second waste incinerator now set to open in June 2027
Phuket’s second waste incinerator is now expected to start operations in June 2027 after delays in imported equipment shipments, with the new plant set to handle up to 500 tons of waste per day.
Phuket officials said the province’s second waste incinerator is now expected to begin operating in June 2027, following delays tied to disruptions in material and equipment shipments linked to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
Mayor Supachok La-ongpetch of Phuket City Municipality, along with senior administrators and relevant agencies, inspected the Integrated Waste Management Center this week to review the installation of imported machinery and assess construction progress.
The project is intended to help address Phuket’s growing waste management pressures and reduce environmental impacts. According to local officials, EA Waste Management Phuket Co., Ltd. plans to gradually feed waste into the bunker system from April to June 2027 in preparation for the official opening.
The new facility will use a closed incineration system designed to minimize odors and reduce impacts on the environment and nearby communities. Once in operation, it is expected to process up to 500 tons of waste per day.
Officials said the added capacity should ease pressure on Phuket’s existing incinerator, which has struggled with excess waste, and improve long-term waste management efficiency across the province.
