Police arrest suspect in burglary at foreigner’s Phuket Town home
The arrest was carried out at about 8:30pm yesterday (May 6) by investigators from Phuket City Police Station under the direction of station chief Pol Col Chatree Chukaew.
A 33-year-old man was arrested in Phuket at about 8:30pm on May 6 over the burglary of a foreign homeowner’s house in Phuket Town, police said. Investigators from Phuket City Police Station, under the direction of station chief Pol Col Chatree Chukaew, arrested Damrongsak Saelee at a rented house in Soi Hoan Sai Thong 3 in Ratsada after tracing him through CCTV footage and other evidence.
Complaint filed after Mae Luan Road house was burgled
Police said the case began on Monday, May 4, when the homeowner reported a break-in at 18/28 Mae Luan Rd in Talad Yai.
Investigators then reviewed security camera footage and followed the trail to the rented property in Ratsada. There, officers found a motorcycle with a sidecar matching the vehicle seen in the footage.
Stolen items seized and charges filed
Police seized more than 15 items believed to have been taken from the house. The property included an Acer projector, a projector screen, a Yamaha audio mixer, microphones, household appliances and kitchenware.
Officers also seized a Honda Wave motorcycle with a sidecar that police said was used during the crime.
Police said Damrongsak confessed when confronted with the evidence. During questioning, he allegedly admitted selling some of the stolen property and using the money to buy drugs and cover daily living expenses.
He has been charged with theft in a dwelling at night using a vehicle to facilitate the crime and transport stolen property, and with possession of a Category 1 narcotic identified by police as methamphetamine. He remains in custody at Phuket City Police Station for further legal proceedings.
