Police hunt suspect after Kathu man stabbed in dispute
Phuket police are searching for a suspect after a 29-year-old man was stabbed following a dispute that began in Kathu and continued into Patong.
Police in Phuket are searching for a suspect after a 29-year-old man was stabbed following a dispute that began at a rented room in Kathu and continued into Patong, officers said.
Pol Lt Col Natthaya Suphanphong, an investigating officer at Kathu Police Station, said the stabbing was reported at about 6:50am. The initial confrontation took place at a rented room opposite Soi Boon-Erb 4, Moo 6, Kathu.
The injured man was identified as Anuchai Srisorn, 29, from Patong. Police said he drove himself to Patong Police Station after the attack and was later taken by rescue workers to Patong Hospital for treatment. Initial medical examinations found a stab wound to his left back that caused muscle tearing.
Police identified the alleged attacker as Supakrit Kammataeng, from Nakhon Sri Thammarat. Officers said he was a friend of the victim.
Pol Lt Col Ratsada Klungwong, Deputy Superintendent for Investigation at Kathu Police Station, said the violence stemmed from a dispute over a woman. According to police, the pair first argued at the rented room where Mr Anuchai lived. Mr Anuchai then fled on a motorbike, with the suspect pursuing him toward Patong Hill.
Police said the two became involved in a second fight in front of Wat Suwan Khiri Wong, also known as Wat Patong. During that altercation, the suspect allegedly kicked the victim’s motorbike, causing it to fall, before stabbing him and fleeing.
Kathu Police are leading the investigation because the dispute originated in their jurisdiction. The suspect remained at large as police continued efforts to track him down for legal action.
