Police investigate death of Swedish man at Bang Tao hotel
A 63-year-old Swedish man died after being found with bruises and wounds at a hotel in Cherng Talay. Police have not yet determined the cause of death.
Police are investigating the death of a 63-year-old Swedish man who was found with bruises and wounds at the Arinara Bang Tao Hotel in Cherng Talay, Phuket.
Thalang Police said the man was found lying face-down at the hotel on Thursday, 17 September 2026. A housekeeper who found him reported that he was able to speak and appeared to have bruises on his body. He declined medical treatment and did not explain what had happened.
The housekeeper found him again at about 10:35am on Friday, 18 September, lying face-down near a bathroom. He was reportedly suffering convulsions and had a fixed stare. He was taken to Thalang Hospital, where his condition later deteriorated. He died at about 9:44pm that night.
Police were notified at about 10pm. An initial examination by police and a doctor found wounds and bruising, but did not establish the cause of death. The body was sent to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further examination.
Police are coordinating with the Swedish Embassy and the Immigration Bureau. Cherng Talay Police have also been asked to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Phuket News said it was withholding the man’s name until confirmation that his next of kin had been notified.
