Phuket City Police are investigating a fire at PPAO Hospital in Phuket Town on May 2 after officers were notified through the station’s radio centre at 9:30pm. The blaze was found in the men’s restroom on the third floor of the hospital’s administration building, and it had already been brought under control when police arrived.
No injuries were reported. Initial checks found damage to items inside the restroom, including a tissue box and a trash can.
Witness account and forensic inspection
A witness, Sukarada Boonpharit, told police that smoke was seen coming from the restroom at about 8:40pm. Staff then alerted officials and began efforts to extinguish the fire, police said.
Investigating officer Pol Lt Sumet Petchruanthong reported the incident to his superiors and coordinated with forensic officers to inspect the scene. Police and forensic officers documented the area, collected evidence and prepared a site map.
Phuket City Police Superintendent Pol Col Chatree Chukaew confirmed the report and said the investigation is continuing to determine the cause of the fire.
