PPAO and filmmakers sign agreement to develop Phuket’s creative industries
The partnership aims to build creative skills, connect local creators with markets and develop new businesses in Phuket.
The Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO) and the Association of Independent Filmmakers of Thailand have signed an agreement to develop Phuket’s creative industries and skills.
The memorandum of understanding was signed on Wednesday, 2 September 2026, at Central Phuket under the Phuket Creative Community initiative. PPAO President Rewat Areerob signed for the organisation, while association president Arunsak Onglao represented the filmmakers.
Other participants included Phuket Arts Association President Anchalee Wanich Thepbut, real estate developer Kan Prachumphan, Phuket Association of Non-Formal Private Schools President Sasawat Limpanich and Manosit Chaengjob, a member of the Vocational Education Commission.
According to an official report of the event, the initiative is based on the concepts “Building the City, Building the People” and “The Andaman Pearls”. It aims to help young people become creators rather than only consumers by using food, art, music and film to develop intellectual property and new businesses.
The proposed pathway begins with identifying and developing talent at family and school level, followed by the creation of Creative Communities and a “Tourism Lab” linking creative work with the tourism industry.
The partnership is intended to develop skills, connect creators with markets, generate employment and encourage businesses, while creating longer-term value from Phuket’s culture, experiences, creativity and local stories.
