Rawai Municipality is launching a new initiative to convert coconut husks into planting soil, aiming to address rising agricultural waste volumes in Phuket. The project, announced by Mayor Thames, will provide residents with training to transform coconut coir into a marketable product, with the goal of reducing organic waste and generating supplementary income.
Training and Community Participation
A hands-on training session is scheduled for April 30 at Nong Nam Nai Harn Public Park, adjacent to Nai Harn Lake. Registration remains open until Tuesday, April 28, through the municipality’s official Facebook page.
Participants will learn practical skills for producing planting soil suitable for both household and agricultural use. The programme is part of a wider effort to develop local expertise and promote sustainable resource management, officials said.
Municipal leaders expect the scheme to serve as a model for community-driven waste solutions, combining environmental responsibility with new economic opportunities for Rawai households.
