Region 8 police bust illegal car pawn ring in Phuket, arrest 2

Region 8 police said they dismantled an illegal car pawn operation in Phuket after raids in Thep Krasattri, Thalang, on April 28, arresting two 29-year-olds and seizing assets worth about B1,562,000. Investigators searched two houses at two targets under Phuket Provincial Court warrants and took the suspects into custody, police said.

Vehicles seized and money trail under review

Officers said the seized assets included 19 vehicles: three cars and 16 motorcycles. Investigators also found information indicating more than B500,000 in circulating debt within the network.

The two suspects were identified as Thawatchai, known as Got, and Nattaya, known as Bew. Both were handed over to Thalang Police Station for legal action.

Police said the pair initially faced charges of jointly operating a pawn business without a license and jointly lending money at interest rates above the legal limit.

Region 8 investigators said they are expanding the financial investigation and checking for other people linked to the operation. Police also warned against using illegal lenders because of high interest costs and the risk of losing property.
