South African man dies after condo fall in Wichit
Officers from Wichit Police Station were called to Space Condominium in Moo 4, Wichit, at 6:30am Saturday (May 2) after receiving a report that a body had been discovered in the pool area.
A South African man died after a fall at Space Condominium in Moo 4, Wichit, Phuket, where police were called at 6:30am on Saturday, May 2, after his body was found in the pool area. Wichit Police said the man had been living at the condominium for about two years, and officers later identified him after arriving with patrol units at the scene.
CCTV traces movements from seventh-floor room
Initial checks with building management and CCTV footage showed the man left his room on the seventh floor at about 11:55pm on May 1.
Footage then showed him walking onto the balcony before jumping down to a sixth-floor balcony, police said.
Security guards found his body in the swimming pool at about 6:30am the next day and alerted condominium management and officers.
Police order post-mortem examination
Investigators said there were no immediate signs of a struggle or property damage at the condominium.
Police coordinated with forensic doctors at Vachira Phuket Hospital to carry out a post-mortem examination, while rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation transported the body to the hospital.
Wichit Police Chief Pol Col Somsak Thongkliang was informed of the case, and officers were continuing their enquiries.
Authorities were also preparing to contact the South African embassy to notify the man’s family and arrange repatriation of the body.
