A summer storm system is forecast to impact 20 provinces across Thailand’s northern, northeastern and eastern regions from April 23 to 25, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, hail, and possible lightning, according to the Meteorological Department on April 20. Phuket and the southern region will remain hot during the day, with isolated thunderstorms expected.
Regional Weather Warnings and Temperature Ranges
The northeastern region faces the highest risk, with thunderstorms projected over 40% of the area and possible hail in provinces including Loei, Nong Khai, Udon Thani, and Nakhon Ratchasima. Minimum temperatures will range from 22 to 26°C, while highs are expected between 36 and 39°C.
Northern provinces such as Chiang Rai and Nan are likely to see thunderstorm activity in 10% of the area, with maximum temperatures reaching 41°C. Central provinces, including Lopburi and Saraburi, may experience isolated storms and temperatures peaking at 42°C.
Eastern coastal areas, including Prachinburi and Trat, are forecast for 30% storm coverage, with sea waves reaching over 2 meters during storms. In Phuket and the Andaman coast, daytime highs will reach up to 37°C, with 20% thunderstorm probability and sea waves of about 1 meter, rising higher in storm conditions.
The Meteorological Department advises the public to avoid open spaces, unstable structures, and large trees during storms, and recommends N95 masks in northern and central areas where dust levels exceed safety standards.
