Summer storms hit upper Thailand as Bangkok faces thunderstorms
Summer storms hit upper Thailand as Bangkok faces thunderstorms — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
Thailand’s Meteorological Department said on April 30 that summer storms will affect the North, Northeast, Central and East over the next 24 hours, bringing thunderstorms, gusty winds, hail in some areas and possible lightning as upper Thailand faces extreme heat. In Phuket and along the Andaman coast, the forecast calls for hot daytime conditions with scattered thunderstorms on the west coast of the South through 6am tomorrow.
Phuket, southern coast and regional forecast details
Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang and Satun are forecast to see thunderstorms across 40% of the west coast, with temperatures of 24-26C overnight and 35-37C during the day. Easterly winds are expected at 10-30 kilometers per hour, with waves below 1 meter and higher than 1 meter in thundershower areas.
On the Gulf side, thunderstorms are forecast across 20% of the area, mainly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Yala and Narathiwat. Temperatures there are set at 24-27C minimum and 34-38C maximum, with southeasterly winds of 15-30 km/h and seas around 1 meter, rising above 1 meter in storm areas.
Elsewhere, storm coverage is forecast at 60% in both the Northeast and East, 40% in the North and 20% in the Central region and Bangkok. Bangkok and surrounding provinces are expected to reach 35-38C with a 27-29C low and southerly winds of 10-20 km/h.
The department said dust and haze accumulation has eased in the North, Northeast and upper Central region because of thunderstorms, but remains at moderate levels.
