Teen driver killed, two injured in Chalong power-pole crash

A 15-year-old driver was killed and two others were injured when a sedan crashed into a high-voltage power pole in Chalong early on Sunday, 27 September, police said.

The crash occurred at about 12:30am at the entrance to Soi Yot Sane on Chao Fa West Road in Moo 10, Chalong. Police found a badly damaged white Toyota Vios with Krabi licence plates at the scene.

The driver, identified as Akhil Sainui from Krabi, was found dead behind the steering wheel. Two other occupants, Thanaphon Penmit, 17, and Khunphon Jaruchinda, 17, were injured and taken to Chalong Hospital.

Police said their initial inquiries indicated that Akhil, Thanaphon, Khunphon and two other unidentified people had been travelling from Chalong towards Rawai Beach when the car lost control and struck the pole.

Akhil’s body was examined at the scene before being sent to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a full autopsy. Police recorded the scene, took photographs and prepared a site map. The case has been registered as a death investigation, with further inquiries to follow.
