Thai police committee to seek DSI briefing on Phuket MP’s alleged nominee-company links
Thailand’s House Committee on Police plans to invite the Department of Special Investigation to explain allegations involving Phuket MP Somchat Techathaworncharoen.
Thailand’s House Committee on Police plans to invite the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to provide information on allegations that Phuket MP Somchat Techathaworncharoen is linked to nominee companies, the committee chair said on 19 August 2026.
Watcharapong Khuvijitsuwan, chair of the committee and a Bhumjaithai Party MP for Saraburi, said reports indicated that the DSI could question Somchat, a People’s Party MP for Phuket, over alleged financial links to companies described as nominees.
According to the allegations cited by Watcharapong, Somchat held shares in and was an authorised signatory for more than 30 companies. The companies were allegedly not conducting genuine businesses but were instead focused on holding land and condominium units valued at more than B100 million together with foreign nationals.
The committee plans to invite the DSI director-general and relevant officials to establish whether the reported conduct occurred, whether the matter will be accepted as a special case, and whether it could breach the law or constitute nominee arrangements for foreign nationals, Watcharapong said.
He said such activity conflicted with the policy of Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to crack down on nominee networks, which the government considers a threat to national security and sovereignty as well as to society and the economy.
Watcharapong also called on the People’s Party to investigate and explain the allegations, saying Somchat should demonstrate his innocence rather than remain silent. The claims had not been established as fact in the report.
