Thalang Police Arrest Man Accused of Stealing More Than 140 Pieces of Underwear

Thalang police have arrested a 29-year-old man accused of repeatedly stealing women’s and men’s underwear, as well as other valuables, in a series of thefts in Phuket.

Police identified the suspect only as Mr. Jang and said he was taken into custody after an investigation by the Thalang Police Station detective unit, under the command of senior officers from the Phuket Provincial Police. Investigators tracked his movements following multiple reports of stolen undergarments in the area.

The arrest took place at a rented room in Thepkrasattri Subdistrict and was later extended to Robinson Thalang shopping mall, where officers seized evidence allegedly linked to the thefts. The items included a white Honda PCX motorcycle allegedly used in the crimes, more than 140 pieces of underwear belonging to men and women, and personal belongings including jewelry, wallets, identity cards, vehicle keys and collectible coins.

During questioning, police said Mr. Jang admitted to stealing underwear since childhood. He allegedly told investigators that he used the items to sniff and gratify himself and that, despite attempts to seek treatment, he had been unable to resist continuing the thefts.

Police have charged him with theft and receiving stolen property. Investigators are working to identify the owners of the recovered items and determine whether he may be connected to other unsolved theft cases in the district.
