Three unlicensed hotels investigated in Phuket over nominee structures
Authorities in Phuket have referred evidence against three hotels allegedly operating without licences and involving complex shareholder arrangements to police for prosecution.
Authorities in Phuket have uncovered three hotels allegedly operating without proper licences during inspections in Thalang and Mueang districts, officials said on 23 July 2026.
The coordinated operation by provincial officials and police targeted properties suspected of breaching the Hotel Act 2004. Investigators found cross-holdings and nominee arrangements among the companies’ shareholders, raising concerns about concealed foreign ownership.
Phuket Governor Chotnirin Kerdsom said evidence had been submitted to police for prosecution. “This enforcement will not affect law-abiding businesses. It ensures fair competition and strengthens confidence in Phuket’s tourism industry,” he said.
Officials said they would expand their investigation into shareholder networks, financial flows and ultimate beneficiaries as part of efforts to improve transparency in the hospitality sector.
