Thailand will see more thunderstorms and isolated heavy rain over the next 24 hours from May 15, with Phuket among 43 provinces flagged for downpours, the Meteorological Department said. The agency said stronger southwesterly winds over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand were driving the wetter conditions, while Bangkok and nearby areas were forecast to get rain across 60% of the area.
Officials warned of flash flooding and forest runoff, especially along foothills, waterways and low-lying ground. Farmers were advised to secure fruit trees and protect crops and livestock during the shift in weather.
Andaman Sea and regional forecast details
On the west coast, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun were forecast to get thunderstorms across 70% of the area, with isolated heavy rain. Temperatures were expected at 23-25C overnight and 32-34C in the day.
From Phang Nga northward, southwesterly winds were forecast at 20-35km/h, with seas around 2 meters and higher than 2 meters in thundershowers. From Phuket southward, winds were expected at 15-30km/h, with waves around 1 meter and above 2 meters in storm cells.
Elsewhere, the North was forecast to get thunderstorms across 70% of the region, while the Northeast, Central, East and lower Gulf coast were each set for 60% coverage. In Bangkok and surrounding provinces, temperatures were forecast at 25-27C overnight and 34-36C in the day, with southwesterly winds of 10-20km/h.
