A foreign tourist allegedly refused to pay a motorcycle rider after a B40 ride in Phuket, then walked away following an argument that lasted about an hour, according to a Facebook post sharing a video of the incident.
The video circulating on Thai social media shows the tourist and rider arguing after the passenger had been taken to his destination. The post said the rider repeatedly asked for the fare and tried to reason with the passenger, who refused to pay.
At one point, the tourist sticks out his tongue at the rider. The video later shows him walking away while the rider remains on the street. Thai subtitles in the clip include swearing directed at the tourist and question why he was arguing over B40.
The Facebook post did not identify either man or state which ride-hailing app was used. It also did not say when the journey took place or whether the rider had reported the dispute to police.
The post said the incident angered Thai social media users and Phuket residents, arguing that B40 could cover fuel or a meal for a rider.
