Toyota launches first hybrid One Make Race at Phuket motorsport event

Toyota introduced its first hybrid One Make Race at the second round of Toyota Gazoo Racing Thailand 2026, held at Saphan Hin Public Park in Phuket on 29-30 August 2026.

The new Yaris ATIV HEV GR Sport Challenge Cup featured a 15-lap race involving professional drivers, celebrities, automotive media and influencers. Miya Pitcha Thongjue, driving car No. 9 for the One Make Race team, won the event. Nontanat Chaisirisuwan, known as Carnest, finished second, followed by Topsaphon Maysuk, or Top, in third.

The Phuket round marked the first time Toyota had used a hybrid vehicle in a One Make Race. The company said the event formed part of its “Making Ever-Better Motorsports-Bred Cars” approach, using motorsport experience to help develop its vehicles.

Miya also won the Yaris ATIV Lady One Make Race, which used race cars powered by Carbon Neutral Fuel. Kitiya Theerawatwatee of KT Team Thailand finished second, while Kamonsikan Thanasinchai of BoxzaRacing Motorsport Team was third.

In the 20-lap Yaris One Make Race Division 1, Nantaphan Sirisoritharakul of N-Sports, Acre, Singha Team Vattan won ahead of Kittinat Lueang-arunchai of RukTeam Nexzter PMC52 and Chitsanupong Phocharoentham of Apex Sim Racing Team by HGR Academy. Toyota Racing Star Team driver Pai Pai Oreo also competed in a Yaris using Carbon Neutral Fuel.

Christopher Murray of WOOT Bangbon 3 won Division 2, followed by Konthorn Koonwong of Compact Brakes Superclub Racing and Matthew Sanick of BENDIX SRT REWORTH RACING.

The Hilux REVO One Make Race used 2,400cc GD Super Power pickup trucks in a 20-lap contest. Chokchai Jarunangkarn of Black Hunter Motorsport by HGR x VG x Ricota took first place, with Chakraphan Wannarat of Team TRANE TITANIUM x FAST FORWARD SPORT YOKOHAMA Tuned by Art second and Chalermphon Phonluk-in of VOLTRONIC NEXZTER WISE RACING TEAM BY RYNNI third.

Nattathan Phiewthongkham of N-Sports, Acre, Singha Team Vattan won the 22-lap Corolla ALTIS GR Sport One Make Race. Saritthana Mitaree of Lenso Motorsport Sinthorn by Vanguard Garage was second and Kentaro Chiba third. Actor and driver Pangpond Akkharawut Mangkhalasut, from Toyota Racing Star Team, finished fourth.

Toyota Motor Thailand said it had organised motorsport activities in Phuket for more than 15 years, linking the events with its efforts to provide entertainment and inspiration while supporting the province’s economy and tourism. The programme also included a free 4x4 Adventure Track, a Walk About on Track, GR Drift Show, Multi-Pathway Show, children’s Balance Bike Kids activities and musical performances.

The third and fourth rounds of Toyota Gazoo Racing Thailand 2026 are scheduled for 26-27 September 2026 at Chang International Circuit in Buriram province.
