Two 26-year-old Kyrgyz fugitives were arrested in Phuket on April 28 after Thai officers tracked them to a hotel in Patong, Kathu district, in a joint operation tied to an Interpol Red Notice. The Crime Suppression Division and Phuket Immigration Police said the pair were wanted over the killing of a man in Kyrgyzstan and had allegedly fled there after the crime.
According to the Central Investigation Bureau, the suspects are accused of kidnapping, unlawfully detaining and fatally assaulting the victim, identified as Mr Jiang. Investigators said his body was later dumped in a mountain ravine.
Missing-person report in Bishkek led to international manhunt
The case began after Mr Jiang’s wife reported him missing in Bishkek on April 11, officials said. His body was later found in a valley with signs of severe physical abuse that investigators say caused his death.
Kyrgyz authorities identified the two men as suspects and sought international assistance through Interpol. Police said the pair left the country soon after the killing and went into hiding after entering Thailand.
Both men denied all charges during questioning, authorities said. The CIB said their permission to remain in Thailand has been revoked and they are being processed for deportation to face prosecution in Kyrgyzstan.
The operation was carried out under the direction of CIB Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Natthasak Chaowanasai, with CSD Division 5 leading the investigation and arrest.
