Two new vice governors began work in Phuket on June 16, taking over from officials who were transferred to other provinces.
Former Samut Sakhon Deputy Governor Pol Lt Col Khetarat Chansilp and former Songkhla Deputy Governor Romdon Hayiawae started their new roles on Monday. They replaced Adul Chuthong and Teeraphong Chuaychoo, who transferred to Songkhla and Nakhon Sri Thammarat respectively, effective immediately.
Their arrival came one day after Phuket Governor Nirat Pongsitthaworn was transferred to Bangkok to serve as Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.
Before formally starting his duties, Pol Lt Col Khetarat visited two prominent Phuket landmarks to seek blessings. Accompanied by his wife, Phichatra Chansilp, he paid respects at the Phuket City Pillar Shrine and the Heroines Monument.
Pol Lt Col Khetarat holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Chulalongkorn University and a Master of Business Administration from Lincoln University. He has also completed senior administrative and police training programmes.
Before becoming vice governor of Samut Sakhon in 2024, he served in a range of senior government roles. His career began with the Tourist Police before he joined the Department of Special Investigation, where he worked on financial and banking crime cases as a special investigator and later headed the Centre for Prevention and Suppression of Influential Figures.
Romdon also officially reported for duty in Phuket on June 16 after transferring from Songkhla. He said it was too early to comment in detail because he was still awaiting a formal assignment of responsibilities.
He said he was ready to carry out his duties to the best of his ability and to work for the people of Phuket, adding that he looked forward to working with all sectors to help support the province’s development.
Romdon brings administrative experience from several posts, particularly in southern Thailand. In addition to serving as vice governor of Songkhla, he has held positions including director of the Personnel Division and director of the Internal Security Affairs Bureau within the Department of Provincial Administration, assistant secretary-general of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre, district chief in Satun and Ayutthaya, and other administrative posts in Pattani and Narathiwat.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Chulalongkorn University, a Master of Public Administration from Ramkhamhaeng University and a Master of Social Science in Conflict Resolution from the National University of Singapore.
