UK school group to open NLCS international school in Phuket — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
North London Collegiate School International signed an agreement on May 15 to develop NLCS Phuket, a new international school in Cherng Talay scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2028. The campus will offer both day and boarding places from early years through Year 13, marking the UK group’s entry into Phuket as demand for international education expands beyond Bangkok.
Campus plans and student capacity
The project is being developed with VLC Group, the Phuket-based owner of premium hotels and resorts in Phuket and Khao Lak. The signing ceremony was held at Courtyard by Marriott Phuket, Patong Beach Resort, with NLCS International managing director Daniel Lewis and VLC Group and NLCS Phuket managing director Naruch Jirayus signing for the two sides.
Planned facilities include boarding houses, separate primary and secondary zones, a science and technology building, a 50-meter swimming pool, a sports gym, indoor tennis courts and a football field.
The school expects to enroll about 1,000 students initially and says the site has capacity to expand to about 1,500.
Brand profile and market backdrop
North London Collegiate School was founded in 1850 by education pioneer Frances Mary Buss. In The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2026, NLCS won Independent Secondary School of the Year, Independent International Baccalaureate School of the Year and Independent Secondary School of the Year in London, while ranking No. 1 among girls’ schools in the UK, No. 2 among all schools in London and No. 3 nationally.
NLCS International said its network already includes schools in Jeju, Dubai, Singapore and Kobe, with NLCS Hong Kong due to open in 2027. The group said NLCS Phuket will receive support on school design, curriculum development, recruitment, teacher development, academic planning and quality assurance.
Kasikorn Research Centre has forecast 9.7% growth in Thailand’s international school business in 2025, with international student numbers rising 8.3%, and identified Phuket as a key provincial market.
