Visa picks Thailand for first Asia-Pacific launch of Visa Destinations

Visa on May 19, 2026 launched its Visa Destinations platform in Thailand, making the country its first market in Asia-Pacific after earlier rollouts in Paris, London and Dubai. The program includes Phuket among its featured destinations and is designed to link travel planning, on-trip spending and payment convenience through curated perks tied to Thai culture and local craftsmanship.

Visa said Thailand was selected because of its strength as a global tourism hub. In 2025, the country welcomed 33 million visitors and generated more than US$50,000 million in tourism revenue.

Spending data highlights premium, long-haul travelers

According to Visa data, affluent travelers account for 75% of total spending on Visa cards. More than two-thirds of cross-border spending also comes from long-haul travelers arriving from outside Asia-Pacific, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and countries in Europe.

That spending mix helps explain the company’s focus on higher-value travel segments. Visa said the platform aims to match demand from travelers seeking smoother service from trip planning through to purchases during their stay.

Benefits span Phuket, Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Samui

The platform’s benefits cover Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Samui. Access is open to all Visa cardholders, while Visa Infinite cardholders receive additional premium and exclusive experiences.

Visa grouped the offers into three areas: entertainment and iconic venues, dining promotions at selected restaurants, and travel and accommodation options intended to make movement around Thailand more seamless.

Anthony Watson, Visa’s country manager for Thailand, said the project is also intended to expand digital payment acceptance. He said that would help businesses of all sizes, including SMEs nationwide, reach more international travelers and support Thailand’s shift toward a more seamless cash-lite tourism and digital commerce economy.
