UPDATE: Woman faces murder charge after 74-year-old mother-in-law killed in Chalong home

A 36-year-old woman, identified as Ms Sriwan, was detained after her 74-year-old mother-in-law, Ms Chantra, was killed at a house in Chalong, Mueang Phuket district, on 1 August 2026. The Phuket Express reported that Sriwan was facing a murder charge.

Chalong police said they received a report at 9.15am and sent officers and relevant agencies to the house. The Phuket News reported that a neighbour notified police at about 9.15am after witnessing the attack and that officers arrived at about 9.20am. The Thaiger separately reported that police were called at about 9.25am after neighbours reported the killing.

Officers found the victim, identified in reports as Ms Chantra — and as Ms Jantra in The Phuket Express report — dead inside the house with serious sharp-force injuries and blood on the floor.

Police said an initial inquiry indicated that Chantra had been at home with her daughter-in-law when the pair had a heated argument. They said Sriwan then allegedly attacked Chantra with a knife and severed her head.

Police found Sriwan hiding in the bathroom and detained her at the house before taking her to Chalong Police Station. The Thaiger reported that she was charged after being taken to the station.

Investigators, forensic officers and an on-duty doctor examined the scene and the body. Police are continuing to investigate the cause and motive of the killing.
