A 20-year-old motorbike rider was arrested after police found methamphetamine and amphetamine pills during a checkpoint inspection at the Darasamut Underpass in Phuket on Friday morning. Wichit Police said the man, identified as Mr. Phuwanon from Kathu, was stopped at about 10:30 a.m. for violating tunnel usage rules at the eastern entrance on Chao Fa East Road.
Seized Drugs and Evidence
Officers reported confiscating five methamphetamine tablets (yaba) in a clear plastic bag and 2.2 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice) in a resealable pouch. Police also found ten empty resealable plastic bags typically used for drug distribution.
A urine test administered at the scene returned positive for methamphetamine use, according to police. Authorities seized all narcotics and paraphernalia as evidence before detaining Mr. Phuwanon for further investigation.
Charges and Legal Actions
Mr. Phuwanon faces charges for possession of Category 1 narcotics, including methamphetamine and crystal meth, without authorization. Police also charged him with driving under the influence of illegal drugs.
The suspect and all seized evidence were transferred to Wichit Police Station for legal proceedings, officers said.
