Andaman Kreuphanich wins Phuket PPAO by-election with 3,019 votes

Andaman Kreuphanich has won the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation (PPAO) by-election in District 4, Thalang, after receiving all 3,019 valid votes cast on Sunday, August 2.

Unofficial results from the PPAO and the Phuket office of Thailand’s Election Commission showed turnout of 25.53%, with 3,432 of the constituency’s 13,445 eligible voters casting ballots. The vote included 140 invalid ballots and 273 blank ballots.

As the only candidate, Andaman was required under election law to receive more than 10% of the constituency’s eligible votes. Her 3,019 votes represented 22.4% of eligible voters, exceeding the threshold.

The Election Commission is expected to certify the result within 30 days.

The by-election filled the seat left vacant when former councillor Pongsakorn Panyawai resigned on June 8 to take up a position with the Democrat Party in Bangkok. Andaman, 30, was the only person to register when nominations opened in June.

In a Facebook post after the result, Andaman thanked District 4 residents and her campaign team, saying she would work hard to honour the trust placed in her.
