Cabinet caps first 200 units of household electricity at 3 baht from June
Cabinet caps first 200 units of household electricity at 3 baht from June — confirmed details at this stage for Phuket readers.
Thailand’s Cabinet on April 28 approved a household electricity rate cap of no more than 3 baht per unit for the first 200 units used, starting with the June billing cycle, a move that will affect bills in Phuket and nationwide. Government spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek said the measure is expected to benefit about 20 million households.
The approval forms part of a national energy agenda aimed at easing the impact of volatile energy prices. Officials said the policy also targets more efficient energy use and lower energy imports.
Solar rooftop push for households using more than 200 units
Households that use more than 200 units were urged to consider solar rooftops under existing state support measures. Rachada said those measures include low-interest financing and installment payments designed to come in below regular electricity costs.
The government also offers to buy back excess power from rooftop systems. If owners do not sell electricity back to the grid, they can still claim a tax deduction, officials said.
The policy extends beyond private homes. The government is also promoting solar rooftop installation across the public sector through the same national energy drive.
