CP Group offers scholarship to Phuket singer Nene Royal before AGT final
The continuing scholarship recognises 16-year-old Phuket singer and guitarist Nene Royal after her America’s Got Talent performances.
Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group has offered a continuing scholarship to 16-year-old Phuket singer and guitarist Nene Royal ahead of her appearance in the America’s Got Talent final.
CP Group chief executive Suphachai Chearavanont announced the scholarship on Facebook on Saturday, 5 September. Photographs showed Nene, whose real name is Rattikan Amloy, and her family receiving the award from CP Group senior chairman Dhanin Chearavanont.
The company said the scholarship was intended to support young Thais who bring recognition and benefits to the country. It did not disclose the scholarship’s value or duration. Nene also received an Apple Studio Display, Apple AirPods Max and a Buddha statue.
The group had previously supported her by displaying her image on an LED screen in New York’s Times Square in August. Thai rock musician Yuenyong “Aed” Opakul, lead vocalist of Carabao, has also praised Nene’s musical ability and provided B1 million in support for her and her family.
Nene is continuing her studies in Phuket while waiting to return to the United States for the America’s Got Talent final, which was scheduled to air on NBC on 22 and 23 September.
She began performing at Naka Market in Phuket and later auditioned for the programme on 7 July with “Zombie” by The Cranberries. During the quarterfinals on 25 August, US time, she performed “Black Hole Sun” by Soundgarden. Judge Mel B pressed the Live Golden Buzzer, sending her directly to the final and allowing her to bypass the public vote.
