DEPA and Polish firm Seedia sign Phuket smart transport MoU
DEPA and Polish firm Seedia have signed an MoU in Phuket to support smart city development, with a focus on transport, mobility and environmental innovation.
Thailand’s Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) and Polish company Seedia Sp. z o.o. have signed a memorandum of understanding focused on smart city transport and environmental development in Phuket.
The agreement was signed on Tuesday, June 16, with support from the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH). The signing was accompanied by a forum that brought together government and industry representatives to discuss priorities for Phuket’s smart city development, particularly transport and mobility.
The MoU was signed by DEPA Acting Director-General Dr Supakorn Sittichai and Seedia President of the Management Board Piotr Hołubowicz. The ceremony was witnessed by Norbert Bak, head of PAIH’s Bangkok office, and DEPA Southern Region Director Pracha Asawathira.
Dr Supakorn said smart city development remains one of DEPA’s core missions. He said the agency is working with government bodies, local authorities, educational institutions and the private sector to promote digital technology and innovation in urban management.
He said the Thailand Smart City Office is coordinating efforts nationwide to improve government services, raise residents’ quality of life and support sustainable economic growth. DEPA is promoting smart city development in seven areas: Smart Environment, Smart Mobility, Smart Living, Smart People, Smart Energy, Smart Economy and Smart Governance.
Hołubowicz said the partnership is intended to encourage the use of technology and innovation in Phuket, especially in smart mobility and smart environment, in line with the province’s smart city plan. He said the cooperation would also support project development and create opportunities for participation in international funding programmes.
After the signing, DEPA hosted a discussion on best practices and development priorities for Phuket’s smart city initiatives. Panellists included Pracha Asawathira, Phuket Provincial Transport Officer Atcha Buachanth, Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation Deputy Mayor Anupap Wechwanichsanong, and Phuket City Development Co Ltd Chairman Waithat Upattisring.
Participants discussed challenges in Phuket’s transport system and how digital technologies and innovation could help improve urban mobility as the province seeks to become one of Thailand’s leading smart cities.
